I am kind of close to my parents and my sister, and I'd prefer not to have to take a plane ride to see them. We do have some sort of obligations to our families, particularly as our parents grow older and less able to look after themselves. Distance makes fulfilling those obligations rather difficult. A married person's first obligation is to his spouse, so one has to be sure that he will be able to fulfill that tremendous obligation in addition to his existing obligations. Marriage isn't a trump card like bankruptcy that automatically cancels all existing obligations. Also, my boss loves me to pieces and would be devastated if I quit on him. He's been really good to me and I feel some sort of duty not to abandon him. Finally, I like him too. I'd have a hard time finding a better job anywhere else.
